Study Description

NZCR is trialling an investigational medication that is being developed as a potential non-hormonal, oral contraceptive for males.

The investigational medication is designed to target and block a receptor required for sperm production. It is hoped that YCT-529 may be able to reduce sperm count and sperm motility (movement) in a reversible manner to provide an option for a non-hormonal male contraceptive.

This study is the first time YCT-529 will be given repeatedly to humans. Thus, the potential effects and risks of the drug are not yet known and may include a potential risk of impairing fertility irreversibly (becoming sterile). This is a first-in-human study, for which we have completed 3 cohort trial groups previously. We are looking for healthy male volunteers to support the research.

It is an investigational drug because it has not been approved by MedSafe or other drug regulatory authorities.

This study (2024 FULL 20396) is being funded by YourChoice Therapeutics, Inc and has been approved by the Health and Disability Ethics Committee.

Requirements

Healthy Males only

    • Have decided to have a vasectomy and/or are waiting for the procedure
    • Have, in the opinion of the investigator, made a firm decision to not father children in future.
    • Aged 28 – 70 years
    • Weigh 55+ kgs
    • BMI (Body Mass Index) 18 – 35 kg/m2
    • Smokers/Vapers (less than 10 per week) allowed
    • Not currently taking any regular prescription medications

What is Involved?

Study Visits: 1 x 7-night stay + 1 x 4-night stay (for a total of 11-nights) + 14 clinic visits + 17 follow-up phone calls

Reimbursement: Up to $10,700 before tax

As part of eligibility screening procedures, we require you to provide three sperm samples at a fertility clinic prior to starting the study . You will also need to provide samples during the study, Are you comfortable with this?
Have you had any covid symptoms in the last 2 weeks or been in isolation?
Have you previously participated in a study with NZCR or any other organization?
This study requires the use of contraception during the study. If you are in a hetereosexual relationship both partners must agree to use contraception (condoms for males | IUD, birth control or another approved form for females). Are you currently using 2 forms of contraception?
Have you received blood or plasma in the last 56 days? If yes please provide details
Any history of abnormal liver or kidney conditions?
Do you have any significant heart disease or heart related conditions/abnormalities? Do you have any family history of heart conditions?
Do you have any history of allergies, asthma, hay fever, food allergies etc that you are aware of?
Have you had your gallbladder removed?
Do you have any history of clinically significant acute systemic infection and/or antibiotic treatment within 28 days?
Have you been sick in the last 30 days?
