Study Information
New Zealand Clinical Research is trialling an investigational drug that may potentially be used for the treatment of obesity and/or insulin resistance (e.g., type 2 diabetes).
Worldwide, obesity and diabetes effect approximately 12-13% of adults. This rate continues to grow every year. The two conditions are closely linked and can lead to other serious consequences, including heart disease.
The investigational drug primarily targets the liver to enhance the breakdown of fat and overall reduce the fat content in the liver. Over time, this activity may also lead to the breakdown of fat outside the liver as well. These actions improve the sensitivity of the body to insulin, lowering blood sugars, and over time, decreasing the risk of developing diabetes or the severity of diabetes, if already present.
It is an investigational drug because it has not been approved by MedSafe or other drug regulatory authorities.
Clinical trials involve an investigative drug and some study assessments.
This study (2024 AM 15237) is being funded by OrsoBio, Inc. and has been approved by the Health and Disability Ethics Committee.
